Solar Energy Project

Project Overview

UCansteng performed the seismic/structural design and review of photovoltaic energy storage system (BESS) equipment provided by EVLO Energy Storage, a subsidiary of Hydro-Québec, for a project in Seal Beach, California. This project was commissioned in spring 2025.

The project is part of the solar energy project at the Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach (NWSSB) and is composed of a 12.8 MW/64 MWh BESS, with 64 EVLO 1000 units and 16 power conversion system (PCS) units.

The structural design considered the salty, phreatic level, and humid coastal conditions. This project is part of California’s effort to reach 52 GW of battery energy storage by 2045.
