Mirador al Volcan Building

UCansteng provided the seismic/structural review of the building. The structural system consists of reinforced concrete shear walls and special moment frames as a lateral resisting system. The building is 4 story and houses 16 apartments with architectural features such as big widows orienting toward the lake, wide use of native woods, and open spaces indoor to provide maximum flexibility in the living areas.

This architectural concept involved to design long beams supported on short walls. Also, some additional soil improvement were necessary to allow for better behavior soil-structure under severe load demands such as earthquakes.
