Project Overview
UCansteng performed a comparison among three codes for three projects that will be located in South Central and South East of the Virginia state, USA. The three codes that are in the scope of this study were:
• ASCE 7 -16 Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures
• VUSBC -2018 Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code
• IEEE 693 Recommended Practice for Seismic Design of Substations
The study included spectral analysis comparison, load combinations, clauses, and applications to conclude which is the most stringent in the design requirements for the equipment, anchors and batteries. The projects in conjunction will be partnered with Dominion Energy to provide over 300 MWh of energy storage in batteries (BESS) commissioned and to be commissioned in 2025 and 2026 respectively.
