School of Engineering USACH

Ucansteng provided the structural peer review of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Santiago, Chile (USACH). This modern Teaching Innovation Rooms Building (formerly known as EDOC) was inaugurated in early 2022 and among its features are 2-story infrastructure, with more than 1,000 square meters, has multiple classrooms for more than 400 students, including hybrid and active learning rooms.

The construction began in 2016 on a project designed to be environmentally friendly, recycling materials to create the first building of its kind in Latin America constructed using shipping containers, their sides were modified to maximize natural light in the classrooms. The floors and ceilings were made from hardwood salvaged from buildings slated for demolition. The building merges very well with the natural landscape of the university grounds.
